Today is Groundhog day and I hear there is some dispute between two ground hogs on the weather forecast for the next 6weeks. [click here]

Sondra and I decided to rent and watch Groundhog Day.

I think we might have a new family tradition!

Barack has been my Democratic candidate from the beginning. It's speeches like this that I hope the United States hears loud and clear. We have more opportunity than ever to be a force for good in our community, our country and around the world.

No matter who becomes President I hope this is heard, we all have some reflection and changes to make. Will you be willing to start with yourself?

http://kezrush.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-there-any-kind-souls-out-th

This is an IM conversation I had with a friend this morning...

8:24 AM
friend: When I got home last night, (Wednesday Night I get my son) I went to get him in Marion, and on the drive back home, he had a seizure on me....
me: ahh...
8:25 AM
how's he doing?
friend: Febrile seizure.....brought on by a spiking temperature....
He is fine.
and home.
I was at hospital until 10pm.
me: yuck
friend: Cat scan, blood work...whole nine yards.
8:26 AM first time anything health related has happened to him, besides common cold or strep....
Freaked me out.... I was driving on 309 [the route] and I look back and he's seizing.
8:27 AM Pulled over and jumped out of car... tried to flag someone down to help....and would you know...I've come to the conclusion, that people just don't want to be bothered with other peoples problems.
There wasn't a feakin kind soul
out that nite on 309, that's for sure.
me: man...
friend: I was yelling HELP HELP...bawling my eyes out.
me: man...
8:28 AM friend: trying to get someone to stop...
me: that sux...
friend: I had no clue what was happening to my son!
called 911and I'm glad I turned on the 911 locater GPS feature on my new phone when I got it last month
cause they knew exactly where I was.
The lady asked me where I was and I couldn't think.
8:29 AM couldn't remember the name of state route 309...
then she's like..."sir, it shows here your calling from 309...is that correct"
I'm like YES! that's it!...
looked at a mailbox and told her the address.
they sent a squad...
8:30 AM me: good to know that technology helps occasionally...
friend: you NEVER want to go through something like that, and never imagine.....uggggg.
but he's ok.... he has a fever this morning, but...
8:31 AM they said this is NORMAL. 1 out of 25 kids ages 5months to 5 years old will have a febrile seizure.
no treatment.....no side effects.....just brought on from a fever that has spike TOO quickly....
8:32 AM me: man...
I'm going to be a wreck when my kids go through things

This got me thinking...
Would I stop to help someone flagging me down on the side of the road?
Even if I do stop, will I offer more than my cell phone?

In short - No!
I find myself trying to justify my actions by saying, "I'm on my way to this..." or "I can't be late. I promised." But in those moments what I'm actually saying is, "I care more about myself, my pride, my reputation, than I care to see if this poor soul on the side of the road is looking for a 'kind soul' to reach out and help them.
I see people on the side of the road all the time, both physically and metaphorically, but do I stop. No!
I pray for my soul, as wicked as it is, that it becomes kind... aware of those in need. That I put my hands into action bearing their burdens as my own...
One day I may be on the side of the road with my child [Selah] in my arms pleading for help! Pray for a kind soul to join in and help bear my burdens.
Will you be a kind soul?

Finally a book that bridges the gap between books on dating and all the books on marriage alone. Going All the Way by Craig G of LifeChurch.tv gives you practical guidelines to protect your heart in your dating relationships, helps you evaluate your own heart and soul while preparing yourself for your future spouse, and above all it gives you a clear picture of what a marriage is and isn't.

Where was this book when I was single!
After I got out of a long dating relationship I took time to be single and to ponder my heart. To study the bible and learn what a healthy biblical marriage looks like. This book could of saved me a lot of sleepless nights wrestling with the scriptures.
I highly recommend it to single men [or women] and those who minister to singles.

Very readable, very practical, very biblical!

As I think upon to my 'kind soul' post, it sparked a desire to respond to the call...
[I'll post them the next few days]

One of the reason I'm not a 'kind soul' is the fact that I over schedule. I'm busy.

Now that I'm in the planning stages to plant Renovo, my calendar is filling up quickly. I usually am good about practicing the Ancient Art of Rest. [genesis 2] [exodus20]

Making time and space; living Shabbat as a lifestyle not just a day. [mark2-3]

As I move forward I'm being intensional to leave time for kind soul inconveniences and space to reflect on a God, Jesus, who came to serve and restore others. Even those who would betray him. [john13]
“My whole life I have been complaining that my work was constantly interrupted, until I discovered the interruptions were my work.” - Henri Nouwen
I'm called to be a Kind Soul at every opportunity that presents itself by practicing the Ancient Art of Time and Space. [matthew12] [john 5,7] [luke 6]

http://art.renovochurch.org/2008/02/representing-gods-lory-through-

Check out this article of Makoto Fujimura being interviewed. Makoto is a famous Japanese painter/artist who likes in N.Y. City and he is a disciple of Jesus.

Expert from the article...

How do you seek to bring glory to God through your art?

By being faithful and resourceful to investment in refinement of the gifts given to me, to use my creativity to contribute to community around me. I believe that art is inherently is of and from God (remember that our God is THE Creator), though we twist the gift of creativity given to us. So if you are involved in creativity, you dwell near the heart of God. Of course that does not mean we have personal relationship with the Creator and thereby being able, via the Holy Spirit, to enjoy God’s presence that is revealed via our creativity.

Still Point

What are your hopes and dreams for your art? As you look to the future and allow yourself to dream a little bit, what would you like to see happen with your art?

I do want to be the best artist that I can be, to represent God’s grace in the world in my life as well as in the world. My effort to advocate for artists have grown into the International Arts Movement, a not-for profit arts organization that has a headquarter in New York City and chapters in Japan and elsewhere. We believe that God desires to re-humanize the world via the arts and creative expression, and we want to create a home for folks wrestling with deep issues of art, faith and humanity. Re-humanizing the world is a big, ambitious goal, and yet a goal that God calls all of us to participate in.

You may wish to learn more about Makoto Fujimura at makotofujimura.com.

http://kezrush.blogspot.com/2008/02/search-to-belong-book-review.ht

"An eye opening book for small group advocates, house church movements and the church at large."

the Search to Belong main idea we live in and can acquire a 'sense of belonging' in different spaces. The four are Public, Social, Personal and Intimate spaces.

We live in...
Public spaces - large church gatherings, sporting events, etc.
Social spaces - Sunday school, bible classes, book clubs, craft groups, etc.
Personal spaces - friendships, one-on-one mentors, etc.
Intimate spaces - a parent, spouse, etc.
And the average ratio that we live in is as follows... 8 public spaces, 4 social spaces, 2 personal spaces and 1 intimate.

This book has really forced me to rethink some of my own thinking for Renovo, so I really appreciated this book and recommend it to anyone who's trying to create community within the church.
