http://art.renovochurch.org/2008/03/art-as-transformational.htmlhtt
Endless evidence exists for the cultural, social, political and spiritual power of artistic communities throughout all centuries.Urban settings around the globe need the transforming presence of Jesus following communities of artists.Good artists speak with an emotive heart language few other politicians, social reformers or preachers can evoke.Something beautiful unfolds when a painting captures a quick glance and fixates it; when a poem speaks perfectly of life in a fallen world; when a ballet leaves the audience breathless, in awe of the grace and control exhibited; when a cathedral quiets tourists in reverence and wonder.
In such lies the power of the arts – the power to capture a human soul in time and space and speak clearly to that soul.Jesus following artists, who create good art, have the unique opportunity to partner with God in that time and space to speak truth.Truth that does not stop with the brutal realities of living in a fallen world, truth that does not ignore the harsh realities of life, but truth that acknowledges pain and brokenness and offers hope, healing and beauty.
The following represent the various practical ways that the arts provide a vehicle for transformation:
- An artistic community provides support, networking and encouragement
- Creates an outlet for positive and constructive self-expression
- Within the arts there exists a power to influence societies
- Talking about the arts opens opportunities to talk about truth related to human design and purpose, worldview, good and evil, beauty, etc.
- Some believe the practice of the arts themselves brings healing and restoration
These resources have helped me in my understanding of the role of art in society.I would suggest any of these articles or books for further study.

Today at 3PM [EST] I have phone interview with NewThing Network.
NewThing is a church planting Network started by Dave Ferguson among others. Being a young church planter I greatly desire to have guidance, help, accountability, suggestions, partners and support. I also greatly desire to be connected to churches who see the value of church planting and re-producing new churches. I'm sad to say that most churches in my area do not. Please pray for me and my potential involvement with NewThing while planting Renovo.

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/god-sent-snow-when-i-asked-for-
Last Tuesday Sondra and I came down with a nasty cold. The good news is that Selah didn't get it. The bad news is it plagued us through the week and weekend. And it wasn't a good week...- On Friday I had an Organic Community gathering scheduled to meet at Temple Court
[the coffeehouse we hope to buy to plant Renovo] - On Saturday I had a practice scheduled with some of my fellow musician's to prepare to Lead worship at New Hope Community Church, Wooster Campus.
- And on Sunday I was suppose to lead vocally and on guitar at NH Wooster.
"Lord, please heal me and give me strength to make it through the weekend."On Friday still feeling miserable, I was concerned I couldn't make it through my weekend plans because of my cold. And then God fixed all my problems.
Not by healing me, but by sending 20 inches of snow.
- Temple Court closed for the weekend
[rescheduled our OC gathering at Temple Court for this Friday at 7pm, if your interested] - New Hope Wooster closed for the weekend
When I ask for strength God gives me snow. He is a good God!

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/jesus-story-bible-book-review.h
My family just finished reading the Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name together. Hands down the best book I've read in a while.
Every child [and parent] should have a copy of this book. Although this book is a Children's bible each page is fresh and exciting. Why?- Because it's in story form. It has a rhythm and occasional rhyme mixed through out.
- Every story points to God's love. Described in the book as "a Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love"
- Every story points to our need for a Rescuer. Jesus.
- Great illustration

I'm going to be taking blogging Sabbatical. During this time I have my blog on auto-post. It will be posting scripture that tell the Easter story. Hope you enjoy it...-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matthew 21 [MSG]
When they neared Jerusalem, having arrived at Bethphage on Mount Olives, Jesus sent two disciples with these instructions: "Go over to the village across from you. You'll find a donkey tethered there, her colt with her. Untie her and bring them to me. If anyone asks what you're doing, say, 'The Master needs them!' He will send them with you."
This is the full story of what was sketched earlier by the prophet:
Tell Zion's daughter,
"Look, your king's on his way,
poised and ready, mounted
On a donkey, on a colt,
foal of a pack animal."
The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do. They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted. Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving him a royal welcome. Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat. Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, "Hosanna to David's son!" "Blessed is he who comes in God's name!" "Hosanna in highest heaven!"
As he made his entrance into Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken. Unnerved, people were asking, "What's going on here? Who is this?"
The parade crowd answered, "This is the prophet Jesus, the one from Nazareth in Galilee."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: When Jesus enters your city, your city walls will shake and people will be ready to throw down their allegiance! They will ask who is this? Do you have an answer for them?

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/anointing-his-head.html
Mark 14 [MSG]In only two days the eight-day Festival of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread would begin. The high priests and religion scholars were looking for a way they could seize Jesus by stealth and kill him. They agreed that it should not be done during Passover Week. "We don't want the crowds up in arms," they said.
Jesus was at Bethany, a guest of Simon the Leper. While he was eating dinner, a woman came up carrying a bottle of very expensive perfume. Opening the bottle, she poured it on his head. Some of the guests became furious among themselves. "That's criminal! A sheer waste! This perfume could have been sold for well over a year's wages and handed out to the poor." They swelled up in anger, nearly bursting with indignation over her.
But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why are you giving her a hard time? She has just done something wonderfully significant for me. You will have the poor with you every day for the rest of your lives. Whenever you feel like it, you can do something for them. Not so with me. She did what she could when she could—she pre-anointed my body for burial. And you can be sure that wherever in the whole world the Message is preached, what she just did is going to be talked about admiringly."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: Did the woman know she was anointing him for burial? Where the guests confused when Jesus predicted his death?

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/washing-his-disciples-feet.html
John 13 [MSG]Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus knew that the time had come to leave this world to go to the Father. Having loved his dear companions, he continued to love them right to the end. It was suppertime. The Devil by now had Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, firmly in his grip, all set for the betrayal.
Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God. So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron. When he got to Simon Peter, Peter said, "Master, you wash my feet?"
Jesus answered, "You don't understand now what I'm doing, but it will be clear enough to you later."
Peter persisted, "You're not going to wash my feet—ever!"
Jesus said, "If I don't wash you, you can't be part of what I'm doing."
"Master!" said Peter. "Not only my feet, then. Wash my hands! Wash my head!"
Jesus said, "If you've had a bath in the morning, you only need your feet washed now and you're clean from head to toe. My concern, you understand, is holiness, not hygiene. So now you're clean. But not every one of you." (He knew who was betraying him. That's why he said, "Not every one of you.") After he had finished washing their feet, he took his robe, put it back on, and went back to his place at the table.
Then he said, "Do you understand what I have done to you? You address me as 'Teacher' and 'Master,' and rightly so. That is what I am. So if I, the Master and Teacher, washed your feet, you must now wash each other's feet. I've laid down a pattern for you. What I've done, you do. I'm only pointing out the obvious. A servant is not ranked above his master; an employee doesn't give orders to the employer. If you understand what I'm telling you, act like it—and live a blessed life.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: Jesus washed feet. I assume he even washed Judas' feet. He knew of his betrayal and still suffered and served him. Am I serving others, even those who betray me and my Lord?

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/passover-meal.html
Luke 22 [MSG]The Feast of Unleavened Bread, also called Passover, drew near. The high priests and religion scholars were looking for a way to do away with Jesus but, fearful of the people, they were also looking for a way to cover their tracks.
That's when Satan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot. He was one of the Twelve. Leaving the others, he conferred with the high priests and the Temple guards about how he might betray Jesus to them. They couldn't believe their good luck and agreed to pay him well. He gave them his word and started looking for a way to betray Jesus, but out of sight of the crowd.
The Day of Unleavened Bread came, the day the Passover lamb was butchered. Jesus sent Peter and John off, saying, "Go prepare the Passover for us so we can eat it together."
They said, "Where do you want us to do this?"
He said, "Keep your eyes open as you enter the city. A man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him home. Then speak with the owner of the house: The Teacher wants to know, 'Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?' He will show you a spacious second-story room, swept and ready. Prepare the meal there."
They left, found everything just as he told them, and prepared the Passover meal.
When it was time, he sat down, all the apostles with him, and said, "You've no idea how much I have looked forward to eating this Passover meal with you before I enter my time of suffering. It's the last one I'll eat until we all eat it together in the kingdom of God."
Taking the cup, he blessed it, then said, "Take this and pass it among you. As for me, I'll not drink wine again until the kingdom of God arrives."
Taking bread, he blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, given for you. Eat it in my memory."
He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant written in my blood, blood poured out for you.
"Do you realize that the hand of the one who is betraying me is at this moment on this table? It's true that the Son of Man is going down a path already marked out—no surprises there. But for the one who turns him in, turns traitor to the Son of Man, this is doomsday."
They immediately became suspicious of each other and began quizzing one another, wondering who might be about to do this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: As Jesus is instituting communion (com- with, union-unity = unity with in Jesus) there is finger pointing disunity. What does Jesus do? He tells them their are dark times ahead and calls them to unity through service [read on].

http://church20.blogspot.com/2008/03/how-far-is-too-far.html
There seems to be a big boom in churches marketing budgets. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But how far is too far?
At the end of the day it's not about how clever you think you are, it's about communicating. I think the temptation is to push the line as far as we can. Like the Gathering Church in Tennessee, that sent out 50,000 flyer's to their local neighborhoods to promote their upcoming series called "RED HOT SEX".
You have to watch this Video
The reaction from the man they interview nails it.
As a church I would make sure that my marketing strategy reflects the heart and the vision of the church, other wise it may be seen as a shameless gimmick to fill seats.
What about THIS billboard ?
Is this clever marketing or are we creeping towards the line of too far?
In all fairness, the gathering Church said on their website that 87 people got saved during the series. That was last December.I wonder how many are still attending church?
Maybe the most helpful question a church can ask is
"Why are we marketing in the first place?"
Is the goal to add converts, or is it to add disciples?

http://church20.blogspot.com/2008/03/bi-modal-work-styles.html
If there is one thing Web 2.0 and the advancements in online software have created it is an attention deficit for those of us who us it. With RSS feeds, email and IM we could pretty much keep ourselves "busy" all day without ever actually getting any of the important stuff done.
On the other hand these tools and their interaction are quickly becoming essential for communication, the processing of information and staying connected to friends and online communities.
Instead of letting this be a Catch 22 check out what Gina Trapani from the productivity blog Life Hacker has found to work. It is something she calls Bi-modal work styles. In one style she has IM open, Email up, Music with lyrics playing and is aware and okay with interruptions and tangents. She can still get work done in this mode, but it isn't as focused.
Then she has a mode where she closes all those programs, closes her door and really focuses down on some work. This a mode where all distractions are locked out and it is a time of focus.I have found myself shifting between modes like this just out of necessity. What do you think, do you work this way or have you found a happy medium?
Here is an excerpt from the article:
4. What are some common “time management” tactics or approaches that you disagree with or don’t follow, and why?
[From Interview with Gina Trapani, Founder of Lifehacker - Morning Routine, Little Hacks with Big Results, and More… | The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss]
To some degree, I reject the super-structured, old school of time management thought, the type of rigid planning where you say “from 10AM till 10:45 I’m going to work on TPS reports. From 10:45 to 11:15 check email,” etc. As a “web worker,” by nature I embrace serendipity and tangents, and like to keep myself open to working on unexpected things that excite me, even if they’re not in the plan. For example, a few years back, during some web surfing, I happened upon a tutorial on how to build Firefox extensions. I let myself go down the rabbit hole, so to speak, and now extension development is a big part of what I do.

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/trial.html
Luke 23 [MSG]Then they all took Jesus to Pilate and began to bring up charges against him. They said, "We found this man undermining our law and order, forbidding taxes to be paid to Caesar, setting himself up as Messiah-King."
Pilate asked him, "Is this true that you're 'King of the Jews'?"
"Those are your words, not mine," Jesus replied.
Pilate told the high priests and the accompanying crowd, "I find nothing wrong here. He seems harmless enough to me."
But they were vehement. "He's stirring up unrest among the people with his teaching, disturbing the peace everywhere, starting in Galilee and now all through Judea. He's a dangerous man, endangering the peace."
When Pilate heard that, he asked, "So, he's a Galilean?" Realizing that he properly came under Herod's jurisdiction, he passed the buck to Herod, who just happened to be in Jerusalem for a few days.
Herod was delighted when Jesus showed up. He had wanted for a long time to see him, he'd heard so much about him. He hoped to see him do something spectacular. He peppered him with questions. Jesus didn't answer—not one word. But the high priests and religion scholars were right there, saying their piece, strident and shrill in their accusations.
Mightily offended, Herod turned on Jesus. His soldiers joined in, taunting and jeering. Then they dressed him up in an elaborate king costume and sent him back to Pilate. That day Herod and Pilate became thick as thieves. Always before they had kept their distance.
Then Pilate called in the high priests, rulers, and the others and said, "You brought this man to me as a disturber of the peace. I examined him in front of all of you and found there was nothing to your charge. And neither did Herod, for he has sent him back here with a clean bill of health. It's clear that he's done nothing wrong, let alone anything deserving death. I'm going to warn him to watch his step and let him go."
At that, the crowd went wild: "Kill him! Give us Barabbas!" (Barabbas had been thrown in prison for starting a riot in the city and for murder.) Pilate still wanted to let Jesus go, and so spoke out again.
But they kept shouting back, "Crucify! Crucify him!"
He tried a third time. "But for what crime? I've found nothing in him deserving death. I'm going to warn him to watch his step and let him go."
But they kept at it, a shouting mob, demanding that he be crucified. And finally they shouted him down. Pilate caved in and gave them what they wanted. He released the man thrown in prison for rioting and murder, and gave them Jesus to do whatever they wanted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: The people had a clear choice to make. To choose one of two Revolutionary's. Barbabas was most-likely a Zealot, which means he was violently trying to overthrow the powers that be. A Revolutionary of Physical Power. Jesus on the other hand was a Revolutionary that this world has ever seen. A Revolutionary of the Body, Mind, and Soul as well as the World. The Jews choose to free Barbabas because he was less a threat to them. Yes, I am saying at that a murderer, a thief, and a rioter is less of a threat then Jesus. Why? Because a Zealot like Barbabas is bound to be caught again and he his followers can be controlled. But Jesus' movement was unstoppable. They couldn't explain it, nor stop it. http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/crucifixion.html
John 19 [MSG]They took Jesus away. Carrying his cross, Jesus went out to the place called Skull Hill (the name in Hebrew is Golgotha), where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, Jesus in the middle. Pilate wrote a sign and had it placed on the cross. It read:
jesus the nazarene
the king of the jews.
Many of the Jews read the sign because the place where Jesus was crucified was right next to the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The Jewish high priests objected. "Don't write," they said to Pilate, "'The King of the Jews.' Make it, 'This man said, "I am the King of the Jews."'"
Pilate said, "What I've written, I've written."
When they crucified him, the Roman soldiers took his clothes and divided them up four ways, to each soldier a fourth. But his robe was seamless, a single piece of weaving, so they said to each other, "Let's not tear it up. Let's throw dice to see who gets it." This confirmed the Scripture that said, "They divided up my clothes among them and threw dice for my coat." (The soldiers validated the Scriptures!)
While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus' mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son." Then to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.
Jesus, seeing that everything had been completed so that the Scripture record might also be complete, then said, "I'm thirsty."
A jug of sour wine was standing by. Someone put a sponge soaked with the wine on a javelin and lifted it to his mouth. After he took the wine, Jesus said, "It's done . . . complete." Bowing his head, he offered up his spirit.
Then the Jews, since it was the day of Sabbath preparation, and so the bodies wouldn't stay on the crosses over the Sabbath (it was a high holy day that year), petitioned Pilate that their legs be broken to speed death, and the bodies taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man crucified with Jesus, and then the other. When they got to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn't break his legs. One of the soldiers stabbed him in the side with his spear. Blood and water gushed out.
The eyewitness to these things has presented an accurate report. He saw it himself and is telling the truth so that you, also, will believe.
These things that happened confirmed the Scripture, "Not a bone in his body was broken," and the other Scripture that reads, "They will stare at the one they pierced."
After all this, Joseph of Arimathea (he was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, because he was intimidated by the Jews) petitioned Pilate to take the body of Jesus. Pilate gave permission. So Joseph came and took the body.
Nicodemus, who had first come to Jesus at night, came now in broad daylight carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. They took Jesus' body and, following the Jewish burial custom, wrapped it in linen with the spices. There was a garden near the place he was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been placed. So, because it was Sabbath preparation for the Jews and the tomb was convenient, they placed Jesus in it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: Everyone, and I mean everyone, who believed Jesus was the Messiah King thought he failed and losing their hope. The believers (the Mary(s) and his aunt), saved (Nicodemus), ashamed (Joseph), even the skeptic (Pilate) all lost what hope they had. Although though the resurrection was right around the corner they had no hope, because could not see it.
I don't know about you, but I loose hope. I may give lip service to hope, but I loose it a lot. In those dark times when you can't see it, I look to the cross and know that Resurrection is just around the corner.

Mark 16 [MSG]When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could embalm him. Very early on Sunday morning, as the sun rose, they went to the tomb. They worried out loud to each other, "Who will roll back the stone from the tomb for us?"
Then they looked up, saw that it had been rolled back—it was a huge stone—and walked right in. They saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed all in white. They were completely taken aback, astonished.
He said, "Don't be afraid. I know you're looking for Jesus the Nazarene, the One they nailed on the cross. He's been raised up; he's here no longer. You can see for yourselves that the place is empty. Now—on your way. Tell his disciples and Peter that he is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You'll see him there, exactly as he said."
They got out as fast as they could, beside themselves, their heads swimming. Stunned, they said nothing to anyone.
[After rising from the dead, Jesus appeared early on Sunday morning to Mary Magdalene, whom he had delivered from seven demons. She went to his former companions, now weeping and carrying on, and told them. When they heard her report that she had seen him alive and well, they didn't believe her.
Later he appeared, but in a different form, to two of them out walking in the countryside. They went back and told the rest, but they weren't believed either.
Still later, as the Eleven were eating supper, he appeared and took them to task most severely for their stubborn unbelief, refusing to believe those who had seen him raised up. Then he said, "Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God's good news to one and all. Whoever believes and is baptized is saved; whoever refuses to believe is damned.
"These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues, they will take snakes in their hands, they will drink poison and not be hurt, they will lay hands on the sick and make them well."
Then the Master Jesus, after briefing them, was taken up to heaven, and he sat down beside God in the place of honor. And the disciples went everywhere preaching, the Master working right with them, validating the Message with indisputable evidence.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterthought: "Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God's good news to one and all. Whoever believes and is baptized is saved; whoever refuses to believe is damned." - What are you waiting on?

Any idea worth spreading can be summed up in a short amount of time. Many of us have had the Roman Road. Whether you agree with it's theology or not it's clear and simple. You can write it on a napkin in 5 minutes or less. What if there was a online napkin? Now there is...
Here is a video I did in 3 minutes.
Check out SketchCast.

I 've just started using SketchCast. It's pretty sweet. Imagine it as a online WhiteBoard or Napkin.I tend to be a wordy guy. Especially when I talk about theology. As I plant I'm trying to clean up my thoughts and make it as simple as possible. Most people are practical, and I think the best theology is practical theology
Over my years of pastoring I pray that I come up with and find clear ways to communicate theology in a powerful way. Here is one simple attempt at it.

http://www.kezrush.com/2008/03/bit-stressed-out.html
I'm a little stressed. Why? I'm preaching on Sunday and I have everyone, 1st grade through adults, to teach to. It's cool, but very difficult to speak to a 1st grader and someone in their 70s at the same time while keeping their attention. And for some reason I thought it would be cool to teach on 'The Voices I Hear In My Head."
My VoiceLet's just say it's going to be interesting. Keep me in your prayers.

Photoshop express
Adobe has now released Photoshop Express. It's an online Photo editor, and though it doesn't boast nearly as many tools as traditional photoshop. It can still be very useful. Another cool fact is that you can get your own sub-site like (yourname.photoshop.com), so the faster you sign up the better your chances of getting your name.
3 main reasons I would check this out.
1. It's 2GB of free storage for photos that you can use for your blog, facebook, myspace, etc
2.Adobe has said that with in 10 years all of their apps will be online, so considered this an early sneak peek.
3.It's Adobe, they tend to do stuff right. So why not get in on this at the beginning and see where it goes.
