Listening today to a CD from John Abel called More Than This. Jon was the songleader at last weekend's Summit in Tahoe. Lovely guy. Great worship leader. Christianity Today also liked him.

This month's header has a retro feel but actually I took the shot last weekend at Lake Tahoe.

Speaking of retro, Prodigal Jon thinks through the 5 stages of emailing an unintentionally funny video like this one below on the Stuff Christians Like blog. HT: Bob Carlton.

The band in question is called "Sonseed". They are a HUGE hit on YouTube with 4.5 stars and over 2300 comments. You can read the legend of the Sonseed video from Dougsploitation. Lyrics are here in case you want to sing along. Its going to be a close race for the most addictive Christian video on YouTube between this one and the Baptist preacher on "He That Pisseth Against the Wall".

UPDATE: Some people suspect the Sonseed video is probably a fake and this site reckons it fake also. What do you think?

- Bible across America started this week. Zondervan are letting people write out the Bible in their own handwriting for a special edition of the NIV. The route they are taking around USA is quite similar to what we did ten years ago in our Winnebago. Hope they do well!

We enjoyed a special screening of Call and Response on Saturday night, at our special summit in Tahoe. Filmmaker Justin Dillion was there and talked about what he was thinking when he made this BRILLIANT film that opens around the country on October 10th in a limited number of cinemas. Its a GREAT film that tackles the subject of human trafficking in USA using music, story, and the philosophy of blues. It was the blues that I especially connected with and the wisdom of Dr Cornel West on the blues concept of call and response. Also good to see some well known celebrities speak up or sing out on human trafficking. Hope it does really well. Go see it, dammit!

Dr Stetzer has an outstanding paper on the American emerging church just released on The Journal for Baptist Theology and Ministry [Download PDF]. Well researched and worth the read. There are not many examples of Baptist emerging movements but it is still a superb effort and reflects some of the diversity of the conversation. A few quotes of mine feature in his article. Debbie and I are in Tahoe, Nevada (Incline Village to be exact) with about 30 people who are doing various forms of missional work, art or social enterprise. Most are working in USA but there are others here doing incredible things in Nepal, Uganda, and even a snowboarding ministry in New Zealand.

We are staying in a nice hotel and getting spoiled. Meetings are informal and friendly and Debbie is having a really great time. Julie from Houston is watching our kids in Scotland and I think its been about 3 years since Debbie and I have got away together like this.
